The aim of International Service is to encourage and foster the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through the world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service. Since chartering in 1990, Heirisson has been active in a diverse range of International programs, projects and relationships, including:
|Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE) – Inbound & Outbound||Rotary Student Exchange (Inbound). Heirisson is delighted to host students from around the world. They attend school in Perth, making friends and experiencing Australian culture for one year. Read more …Rotary Student Exchange (Outbound). |Bali Eye Clinic||With other Rotary clubs, in the early 1990s Heirisson supported the Bali Mobile Eye Clinic, and later the Bali Eye Hospital. Read more …|
|Group Study Exchange (GSE)||See Vocational|
|Ambassadorial Scholars||Rotary International’s Ambassadorial Scholarship Program was an award to outstanding students, technicians, teachers and journalists to study in another country. The club occasionally heard presentations by such scholars visiting Perth, of from WA scholars retuning to our state. This grants program ended in June 2013 (at the same time as GSE) as Rotary refocussed on its Peace Fellowships. Read More …|
|Loreto Schools (Vietnam)||Hundreds of Vietnamese school children turned up for class in smart new uniforms at the start of their 2006 and 2007 school years thanks to the Heirisson’s ground-breaking foray into Vietnam. Read more …|
|Microfinance (West Timor)||Farmers in a small rural community in West Timor doubled their income after taking up micro-loans of $150 – $200 each from a “Trust Bank” funded by three WAY. Rotary Clubs (Heirisson, Subiaco and Western Endeavour). Read more …|
|Stepping Out (Cambodia)||Heirisson members first came across WA lass, Tanya Knott, volunteering with now ex-pat, Clare Holman, at Chres Village Orphanage near Siem Reap in Cambodia. Clare now runs the Stepping Out Support Program (SOSP), a ‘half-way house’ for orphaned young adults to gain higher education and a vocational career. Heirisson now helps Tanya out locally in WA. |Wowan Water (Vanuatu)||Following our rebound exchange student Sam Cleary’s stint as a volunteer water and sanitation engineer on Ambrym, Heirisson championed a partnership with Engineers Without Borders NZ to build a rain-catchment water supply to remote villages around the Wawan Fontal area. |Huayjakan Youth & Community Training Centre (Thailand)||In late 2014, an unanticipated opportunity emerged to build a youth and community training centre for Hill Tribe people in Thailand. Heirisson members were actively involved in designing, funding, and construction the first phase of the building on site. Read more …|
|Anzac Centenary||During the Anzac centenary (2014-2018), Heirisson is exploring opportunities to engage innovatively in community commemorations, including international student involvement, public education and consciousness-raising, community and vocational service etc. Read more …|
